LPIC certs are stepping up!!!

So, I was feeling adventurous when trying to renew my LPIC-2 cert by getting the LPIC-3. While signing up for my testing I decided to go for the Pearson OnVue testing so that I could slide it in when “teleworking”. Unfortunately, they only had the fresh off the pan LPIC-3 Version 3 test available. I’ve been studying pretty much the only book about LPIC-3 300 Mixed Environments by Antonio Vazquez. Sorry, Antonio. Your book is now out of date.

So, the new LPIC-3 300 version 3 for Mixed Environments came out a few days ago on August 23rd, 2021. The questions asked were a bit more detailed than what I remember in the LPIC-2. My biggest fallout was categorized as “Samba Basics”.

Aside from the old fashioned “Upgrade your cert to renew your cert”. LPIC now has Continued Education Program that I’ll try to use to keep my LPIC-2 if I don’t get my LPIC-3 in time. Using the new Professional Development Unit (PDU) you need to pay $180, have an active certification, and do some PDUs. If you take a gander at the Linux Professional Institute PDU chart It’s not that bad. It takes work experience. And since we’re playing around in GNU Linux we’re always doing “Self-directed learning activities”. And if you’re part of a team that manages GNU Linux systems you’re also doing a lot of “Providing mentorship to individuals or groups” especially if you’re the most … “diverse”. However, that doesn’t quite cut it. Kick up a blog and do some posts to fall into the “Creating educational blogs, vlogs or articles”. I guess now I have more motivation to use this site. 😉

Now if you’ll excuse me… I have to go study up on Samba. The infamous contaminate of a GNU Linux systems to play nice with Windows.
